The Friends of the PGH

MISSION

The Friends of PGH is a non-stock, non-profit organization run by volunteers aimed at supporting the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) provide continuing health care and welfare for its indigent patients. Its mission is to ensure that less privileged Filipino may have access to emergency medical services, crucial diagnostic tests, prescription drugs and equipment, life-saving medical surgeries, treatments and procedures and post-hospital care. For this purpose, the Foundation shall also directly assist the Philippine General Hospital in the acquisition of medical, laboratory and other hospital facilities, equipment and supplies for the improvement of the quality of health services provided to indigent patients.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since 2012 up till 2022, the Friends of the PGH, Inc. has helped some 35,000 indigent patients of the Philippine General Hospital, which averages some 300 patients a month. These patients are mostly suffering from Covid19, cancer, bacterial infection, hypertension, orthopedic disorder, pneumonia, gynecological problem and diabetes, among others. They are given financial support to procure prescription medication, undergo laboratory or diagnostic tests or treatments, surgeries and post-hospital care. Apart from answering the needs of patients, the FPGH has also helped the Operations Room buy two laparotomy and surgery linen, gowns, etc.; helped the Pathology Departments procure four serofuge for blood analysis in a span of ten years, donated optical equipment to the Optical department, donated cesium needles for cancer, suction machines, blankets, baby diapers, as well as furnish this department and wards with a computer, ceiling fan, wheelchairs and mono block chairs. Since 2004, a group of German Doctors, organized under the Kindernothilfe Heidelberg in Germany (KiN e.V) and represented by Dr. Fritz Hack-Ullmer and Dr. Gunter Hecker donated some 1.3 million Pesos for the procurement of shunts for children suffering from hydrocephalus. The FPGH has also donated more than one million pesos for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
